Best Shampoo and Conditioner For Hair Growth – Bosley Review

Best Shampoo and Conditioner For Hair Growth – Bosley Review

I discussed in detail, the benefits of using minoxidil for hair loss treatment in one of my latest posts. I have also shared with my readers, my personal experience with hair loss and the fact that it is largely hereditary. If you are here reading this, I can only assume you are experiencing hair loss or thinning or maybe just looking for quality shampoo. Well you have come to the right place, because the best shampoo and conditioner for hair growth is made by Bosley. What is great is that unlike using minoxidil, the Revive products by Bosley can be used by anyone, even just to strengthen and increase the quality of your hair. If you are interested in using minoxidil, please read my article Does minoxidil work for women because this treatment is really for A SPECIFIC group of persons with hereditary hair loss or female pattern hair loss. I used minoxidil treatment in combination with bosley’s Revive Shampoo and Conditioner and here I will provide a clear review, to explain why you should consider using these products.

Why did I start to use Bosley? To be honest, I always tried to use high quality shampoo and conditioner to help with my hair loss, but for me, when I say quality, I did not really ever verify the quality of the products I used. My determination of a “quality” shampoo, was a shampoo I could only purchase at a hair salon. Not the typical chain brand products like Dove, Head and Shoulders or Garnier Fructus.

And so I used different types of these hairs dresser grade shampoos for years and really did not notice a difference. So when my new hair dresser highly recommended Bosley, specifically for hair loss and hair thinning, I had nothing to lose since the cost of most of these products are similar.

Well for the first time, I did notice a difference. On top of it, when I started the Bosley products, I had already been using minoxidil for over 2 years, and so my hair loss and hair growth had stabilized and I was already very happy with my hair for the first time in a long time. So I was even more amazed, to notice that a shampoo and conditioner added to my hair quality, after 2 years of hair loss treatment with minoxidil.

A Competing Product With A Different Purpose

Nioxin-Hair-ThinningOn a side note, have you ever heard of Nioxin Shampoo? Nioxin is one of the competing products for hair loss, and I used it a few years ago and did not see any results. On top of that, I found the shampoo so strong, that it would make my scalp burn when I washed my hair, so I did not use it with every hair wash.

Like I mentioned before, I never really questioned the quality of shampoo and/or the ingredients, but now that I do, I was easily able to determine why Nioxin did not work for me. Nioxin is not for hair loss, but it helps thicken the hair you already have. It does so by improving the health of your scalp. If your hair is thinning, but not shedding, then Nioxin may be better for you. You can purchase Nioxin CLICK HERE.

Overall Quality of Bosley

Best-shampoo-and=conditioner-for-hair-lossClaim 1 – Organic Ingredients

All ingredients in Bosley products are vegan, sulfate-free, gluten-free, paraben free and phthalate-free.

Again I know that being free of all this “stuff” is good, but why?

  • Parabens are preservatives mostly found in cosmetics and hair products. They are used because they are cheaper but the down-side is that they penetrate the skin. Parabens have estrogen-like properties and can increase the chances of breast cancer and studies have also shown that they are bad for the scalp and hair.

Parabens may also cause a number of problems for your hair including drying, irritating your scalp, fading your           color, and even hair loss. (1)

  • Sulfate is used because it is a very effected cleanser, that removes all the grind and dead cells to be removed from the scalp. But this chemical is so strong, that it also removes all the natural oils from your hair, making your hair brittle and dry. It can also cause, itchiness, dry skin, rash and remove the dye from your hair.
  • Phthalates are used as gelling agents in hair, skin products and fragrances. Phthalates promote flexibility in plastics and in fragrances are responsible for making the scent last longer. According to an article, phthalates used in shampoos are associated the following health concerns:
    • Endocrine Disruptors
    • Organ System Toxicants
    • Infertility Increasers
    • Bioaccumulative
    • Weight Gain Catalysts
    • Possible Risk Increasers of Breast Cancer
    • Possible Risk Increasers of Liver Cancer
    • Possible Early Pregnancy Inducers
    • Possible birth defects
    • Weight gain

BOTTOM LINE: Whatever hair products you decide to use, make sure they are legit organic, not containing any of these products.

Claim 2 – Regrows Hair

The 3 active Ingredients in Bosley’s Hair Loss Products, including the shampoo and conditioner are

  1. Saw Palmetto

Is an enzyme that has dihydrotestosterone (DHT) inhibiting ingredients. What this means is that this ingredient reduces the negative effects of the DHT hormone, one of the prime reasons for thinning hair follicles and hair loss.

Imagine, DHT also plays a huge role in male development and can also contribute to a number of health issues, such as sexual impotence, an enlarged prostate, and hair loss.

Given that all of Bosley’s products are equally for men and women, this ingredient may not only have positive effects on hair grown but also on other health issues.

Native Americans have been using Saw Palmetto to treat illnesses for centuries and it is also one of the most common ingredients found in a variety of dietary supplements sold today.

Saw Palmetto should not be taken by the mouth, when pregnant or breastfeeding. So ensure that it is not in any of your vitamins. (2)

2. Pentapeptides:

Let us break this down: “PENTA” is 5, and that is because this “peptide” contains 5 amino acids.

So like protein, peptide contain amino acids but in smaller quantities. There are many known health benefits of peptides, which can be found naturally in foods and is also used in many natural supplements.S

Some of the benefits associated with peptides are: the slowing down the aging process, reducing inflammation, lower high blood pressure, prevent the formation of blood clots, improve immune function and act as antioxidants.

The specific pentapeptide used in Bosley’s products is Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 known to increase skin’s hydration and resilience. It does this by stimulating keratin genes which a very important because it provides important structural and protective functions to the hair, skin and nails. It is highly used in eyelash treatment, to thicken the eyelashes.

3. Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCT):

According to Wikipedia, is an anti fungal ingredients and preservative used in hair loss shampoo and other cosmetics, to help treat fungal infections as well as fungal overgrowth on the scalp.

Although there have been claims that MCT could be toxic and cause cancer, these claims are founded and they are effective preservatives and can be used safely. Back in the 1980s many people had allergic skin reactions to MCT, but back then, it was used in high concentration. Today, it is used in a much lower concentration in hair products and a study showed that the average allergic reaction to MCT is 8%. And to minimize this even more, MCT is no longer used in stay on products such as skin creams, but only as wash-away products such as shampoos.

So why is this needed in a shampoo or other hair products developed by Bosley?

Because in some people hair loss and thin hair can be caused by fungal infections on the scalp such a dandruff or other conditions. This is because too much fungus or bacteria can damage hair follicles and interrupt the hair growth cycle.

So far, have I convinced you of the quality ingredients of Bosley? If so, continue reading.

Claim 3 – All Bosley Pro products Are Doctor Recommended

Best-Shampoo-and-Conditioner-for-hair-loss-Drrecommended

Yes without a doubt! In fact, this is stated on all their products and righfully so, because these products have achieved that reputation and status.

If you ask your dermatologist about Bosley, I can guarantee that he or she will be able to confirm the quality of these products.

Claim 4 – Safe To Use

Absolutely!! I think it is clear from the active ingredients I discussed, and the fact that they are all organic, confirms its safety. It is highly recommended by dermatologists, another indicator that their products are safe to use.

Everyone is different. So can you have an allergic reaction? That can happen with any product or ingredient your body as never been exposed to. But if you have used all types of shampoos, especially ones that are not organic and have not had any reaction, chances are you should be good. People who are generally very sensitive to skin products are more likely to be sensitive to all different types of products.

Who Should Use Bosley?

OK so I mentioned earlier that Bosley, unlike Nioxin, help with hair loss and regrowth. Now if you read my review on minoxidil, I explain how this treatment is specific for men and women, who have a hereditary form of hair loss, like myself.

The Bosley Shampoo and Conditioner do not contain minoxidil however, Bosley does sell a treatment program that includes the 5% minoxidil. What I can assure you is that, the shampoo and conditioner had it’s OWN INDEPENDENT results to help hair loss. I literally just experienced this, having stopped Bosley for a few months but continued only with minoxidil.

Why did I do that? My hubby and I went traveling for 6 months and it was very easy to bring 6 months supply of rogaine, the main brand that contains minoxidil. I could not however backpack with 6 months of supply of Bosley. So I ran out halfway through my trip and wow, my hair started falling again. Not as bad as it used to because minoxidil is significantly effective. But in just 1 week of being back on my Bosley shampoo and conditioner, the extra hair loss I was experiencing stopped.

So what is great about this? For those who have a hereditary or genetic form of hair loss, combine minoxidil with Bosley shampoo and conditioner and you will have the best results possible.

If you can not use minoxidil because your hair loss is not hereditary, the 3 main active ingredients Saw Palmetto, MDT and pentapenticide will be able to restore your hair growth and prevent more hair loss.

Where to Purchase

You can of course buy all the products on Bosley’s site directly, but I have always ordered Rogaine and my Bosley products on Amazon, where it is much more cost effective, especially if you purchase the 1 litre bottles.

Living The Results

Best-Shampoo-and-Conditioner-for-hair-loss-Proven

I really try to promote products that I personally use and believe in. Now that I am pregnant, I can no longer use minoxidil (it is not safe when pregnant or breastfeeding), and Bosley is providing me with a lot of reassurance. My hair is not going to be as full without minoxidil because this ingredient is medicinal and has completely different properties not found in Bosley. But without Bosley right now, and for the next year, I know I would be very stressed about the future of my hair. I have been using these products religiously for at least 3 years, because when hair loss is genetic, there is no cure. What this means is that I have to continuously use these products for the rest of my life but you know what? I am grateful that I found products that can prevent me from reaching the point of baldness, like many women in my family, such as my mother and grandmother. So get your confidence back and do not suffer from hair loss any longer:)

I highly recommend buying the large 1 litre bottle, because in the long-run, it saves you a lot more money.

  1. I have not heard of the Bosley line of products, so this is great information to have about fighting hair loss (with shampoo and conditioner which is used daily anyway!). I’ve been using products from the brand Grow Gorgeous, but they are both expensive and I don’t totally love the strong smell. I wonder if they work on only thickening hair (like the nioxin you mention) or work to help with hair loss… something to look into!! Thanks so much!!

    • Hello Ally,

Thank you for your feedback and sharing your personal experience. I have never heard of grow gorgeous at all.

You are right that it is great to use a shampoo and conditioner that also helps hair loss because we already need those products so it is a 2-for-1!

I believe that the ingredients that are in Bosley, will also help thicken your hair because it is a 2 step process meaning that the shampoo and conditioner serve different roles. The shampoo will still cleanse the scalp from any potential bacteria. You may not benefit from the DHT inhibitors in the shampoo, which prevents hair loss (or you may have more hair growth), but according the the exact words on the Bosley site, the volumizer immediately gives your hair a thicker, more vital appearance.

I would personally still try bosely. I think you will really be happy with the results and the smell is great:)

  2. Hello there!

I really found a lot of value in your Bosley Review!
I love the way you simplified the review and made it easy to understand.
Thanks for enriching my knowledge about the harmful substances present in hair products. And I also love the fact that Bosely is safe to use since I don’t want to lose all my hair by the time I’m 30!
I myself am astonished towards some of the details mentioned in this review.

Anyways, I really liked this post and hope more people read this and benefit from it!

    With regards,

    Faiz

  3. Hello Cynthia. This article has taught me a lot regarding shampoo and hair conditioning in general. Before now, I’d not bother to check and study the ingredients in the shampoo I use but you have taught me to do just that as it is paramount to determining if a particular shampoo would be effective for what I plan to achieve.

I love the fact that all the ingredients in Bosley products are vegan and free of unhealthy ingredients. Now I am fully aware why those other ingredients were not included. Bosley is truly a game changer and their claims are mind capturing. Bosley is definitely the best product I have seen for hairloss and regrowth. Thank you for recommending Bosley.

    • Hello Techie,

Thank you very much for taking the time to give me your feedback regarding my article and about your thought on Bosley products. You are not the only one who does not look at the ingredients of shampoos. I think we assume that they are all the same or overall healthy.

If you decide to order and use these products, I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed. The quality is amazing and the results are clear.

Let me know if you switch over to Bosley:)

  4. I’m so glad I came across your information about Bosley!  I have been looking for a shampoo to help with hair growth for quite some time now but never really knew what type of brand to go with.  There are so many bad chemicals out there that can damage your hair even more.  I love to see Bosley is organic, sulfate and paraben free (among its many great benefits).  I appreciate your honest and detailed review. Thank you for sharing!

  5. I knew of Bosley as a hair treatment center, but didn’t know that they had their own line of hair care products. That’s really encouraging that they try to use all natural, organic ingredients without the harsh chemicals found in most shampoos and conditioners. My wife and I recently tried making the switch to soaps and hair care products that didn’t include these. I feel so much better after changing, knowing that I am lowering the risk of these adverse effects. Thanks for the review! I’ll have to check them out!

    • Hello Steve,

Thank you for your comments and sharing your experience with Bosley. Yes I was the same. I had heard of Bolsey for hair treatment but as a Center as well. It was only because of my great hairdresser did I discover their products which has truly helped me with my hair loss.

It is crazy to think we have to read labels for everything nowadays. I never thought there was really a difference between hair products but it is amazing how understanding what these ingredients are can make all the difference.

      Thank you again,

      Cynthia
